ONSIDE – Innovative education to enhance the skills of Sport Officials in Europe

The 12th of October 2017 saw EOSE present at the European Athletics Congress-Convention in Vilnius, Lithuania.

EOSE were pleased to be invited to speak at this annual event which brings together representatives from over 50 national athletics federations. Ben Gittus, EOSE Director of Standards, presented during a workshop on EU funding.

As skills and workforce development topics are reaching a momentum in the sport and physical activity sector in Europe, EOSE keeps working to provide room for new collaboration.

On the 23rd of June 2017, some national organisations with an expertise and interest in skills development in the sector from the Austria, Czech Republic, and Slovenia, were invited to take part in the EOSE Membership Development Workshop organised in Vienna (Austria). The event was hosted by the European Handball Federation (EHF) as part of the memorandum of understanding signed by the two organisations earlier this year.

The 7 Step Model – A lifelong Learning Strategy for Sport

On the 1st of June 2017, EOSE Director of Standards, Ben Gittus presented at the European Handball Federation Club Management Seminar in Cologne, Germany.  This annual event which brings together representatives from national handball federations and clubs from across Europe had the theme of “The player in focus – club environment – best practice”.

Ben attended the first day of this three-day event and gave a key note presentation on the 7-Step Model Lifelong Learning Strategy for Sport.  This model has been developed and promoted by EOSE to support workforce development in sport and physical activity. Ben introduced EOSE before going on to present key issues affecting the sport sector in Europe and relevant EU policies in sport and education. The 7 Step Model was then presented as a unified response to the key issues and policies at the European level.

port qualifications in Europe: managing the expectations of national qualifications frameworks and international federations

On the 26th and 27th November 2015 Cedefop, the EU agency which supports the development of vocational education and training (VET), held a conference on the impact of globalisation.  The conference gathered over 100 participants from over 30 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and India, and more than 20 European federations, associations and international companies to share views on how to develop VET for a globalised economy.

Ben Gittus, EOSE Director of Standards, represented EOSE at the conference and presented in a workshop on the topic of “Sport qualifications in Europe: managing the expectations of national qualifications frameworks and international federations”.  Ben’s presentation described the situation in Europe of international standards and qualifications developed by sport federations being implemented at the national level and the impact and links to emerging national qualifications frameworks.

How to advance Learning Mobility in Sport

EOSE organised a European Round Table on learning mobility in sport on the 17th of November 2015 in Brussels.

Hosted by the Délégation Générale de la région Rhone-Alpes and gathering 19 stakeholders from 14 organisations in the particular context following Paris’s terrorist attack, the event gave EOSE an opportunity to recall the goals mentioned along the Paris declaration from March 2015 and to highlight the high potential of learning mobility to help reach all of them.

Exploring the recognition of non-formal and informal learning in and through sport

EOSE organised a European Workshop on the recognition of non-formal and informal learning in and through sport on the 5th of November 2015 in Copenhagen.

Hosted by ISCA and gathering 19 stakeholders from 14 organisations, the event gave EOSE an opportunity to start a collaborative work with interested stakeholders as regard the first draft of a common approach and strategy towards the recognition/validation of non-formal and informal learning in sport.
