On the 30th and 31st of October 2024, the partners in the EU-funded GLDF4CleanSport project came together for their 7th project meeting in Brøndby, Denmark. Jointly led by EOSE and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), the project is making a major contribution to WADA’s Global Learning and Development Framework which aims to transform and harmonise the education and training of anti-doping practitioners across the world.
Completed Outputs
The partners were delighted to confirm the official sign-off and publication of the first innovative outputs of the project:
- A Research Report: “The global anti-doping workforce: characteristics, realities, challenges and tendencies”
- A Functional Map of the Anti-Doping Industry
- Professional Standards and Role Descriptors for the roles of:
- Testing,
- Compliance,
- Major Event Organiser, and
- Government Advisor.
The Research Report is the first attempt to explore and analyse the anti-doping workforce, including a major global survey of anti-doping organisations. The Functional Map is a graphic representation outlining the main functions that take place in the anti-doping system. The Professional Standards provide a benchmark of competence for the four specific roles above and detail knowledge and skills requirements. The Role Descriptors are model job descriptions for the occupations covered by the Professional Standards.
These outputs can be found in the library section of the GLDF4CleanSport website:
These valuable products will have a lasting impact on the sector, informing best practice in education and employment in anti-doping for years to come.
Ongoing Outputs
At the meeting, the partners discussed progress with the remaining outputs of the project which include a competency-based training offer for the four selected anti-doping roles. The group also heard about a successful train-the-trainer programme which has been developed with a pilot event in Poland which gathered over 30 trainers from around the world.
In 2025 the project partners will oversee the creation of two online self-assessment tools: one for anti-doping practitioners to measure their own capabilities and identify areas of improvement, and one for organisations to evaluate their existing anti-doping training against the requirements of the Professional Standards. The group received an update on the development of the tools from WADA and look forward to supporting the piloting and launch of the tools next year.
Sustainability of the project outputs is crucial to such a project as GLDF4CleanSport and the partners discussed a range of measures which can be used to ensure the results of the project will live on after the life of the project and continue to have a long-term impact on the sport sector. A training course on how to develop training is in development, as well as a Sustainability and Quality Assurance Action Plan to define actions to support future implementation. The potential for new projects linked to workforce development was also discussed.
The meeting was held at the House of Sports in Brøndby, Denmark, and hosted by Anti-Doping Denmark (ADD). The venue and hospitality for the meeting was second to none, and the partners enjoyed traditional Danish food on one evening at the end of a busy day of discussion and debate. The meeting was excellently organised by colleagues from ADD.
The partners now look forward to heading into the final year of the project and completing the innovative suite of outputs to aid anti-doping education and employment and ultimately uphold the long-term integrity of sport globally.
The final in-person partner meeting will take place in Paris, France in June 2024.
