University of Chester – UK
United Kingdom
The University of Chester is one of the oldest English higher education establishments of any kind, pre-dating all but Oxford, Cambridge, London and Durham, and its original buildings in the ancient city of Chester were the first in the country to be purpose-built for the professional training of teachers.
Education degrees are now just a small part of the 477 course combinations on offer; from a sports perspective programmes include sport management, sport development and sports coaching, as well as physical activity, fitness and health.
The Department of Sport and Community Engagement is responsible for the management and delivery of sport-related programmes such as those identified above. The Department has a strong reputation locally and nationally for their sport courses. The Sport Development programme is endorsed by CIMSPA, the professional body for sport and physical activity in England. This endorsement is evidence that the department’s programmes are vocationally oriented and focused on ensuring graduates are employable within the industry.
