The EOSE Executive Board gathered in Malta on the 17th and 18th of June 2024. The meeting was hosted by Sport Malta and served as a pivotal moment for discussing the strategic development of our organisation and exploring future opportunities of collaboration and activities towards skills development in the sport sector.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to meet with representatives from Malta’s National Statistics Office (NSO). This meeting facilitated an invaluable exchange of knowledge regarding sport labour market statistics. By sharing insights and data, both parties gained a deeper understanding of the trends and challenges within the sport sector. This collaboration promises to enrich our collective efforts to improve employment and educational opportunities in sport across Europe and at the national level.

The board members visited several newly established sport facilities, which underscore Malta’s commitment to inspire Maltese and transform the nation through sport and through innovative, fun and meaningful sporting experiences. The tour included a visit of the National Pool Complex which hosted the 2024 European Aquatics Men’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four earlier in June 2024. An unexpected yet thrilling part of our visit was attending a match from the Under 16 Water Polo World Championships. The energy and excitement of the game added a dynamic and enjoyable dimension to our visit.

Our time in Malta also afforded us the opportunity to connect with the director of the Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation. This non-profit organisation leverages the sport of sailing as an educational tool for children and young adults facing difficulties. Through their innovative programs, they provide these individuals with unique learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth. Our discussion underscored the shared values of EOSE and the Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation, particularly in using sport as a vehicle for social development and empowerment.

In an unforgettable experience, the EOSE board members had the opportunity to embark on a sailing adventure in the breathtaking Valletta Harbour organised by Jarhead Young Sailors Foundation. This unique activity allowed us to appreciate Malta’s rich maritime heritage and the serene beauty of its coastline. Sailing through the historic harbour, surrounded by centuries-old fortifications and azure waters, was not only a refreshing break from our discussions but also a unique way to bond and reflect on our shared commitment to the sport sector.

The EOSE Executive Board’s meeting in Malta was not just a step towards our organisational growth but also an enriching experience that highlighted the power of sport in various facets of society.
