On Thursday 17th of October 2013, the workshop “Human Capital of new professional and volunteers” was an opportunity for speakers, including Jean Camy (Founder of EOSE) and Thierry Zintz (President of EOSE) to emphasise what is at stake when thinking and dealing with the professionalization of the sector and why it is so crucial to invest in the workforce if sport is to fulfil its potential as a contributor to society.
Thierry Zintz made a special focus on volunteering as a key dimension of the sector. He stated that to motivate volunteers, we need to ensure they get the feeling they keep something from their experience; it’s about exchanging invaluable things, but we can together develop and offer them a great formal recognition. He suggested adopting a bottom-up approach in the context of vocational training. Last but not least he recommended the participants to consider the tremendous opportunity of getting elderly people as volunteers. They indeed have a lot to share and they are willing to! It is great to see inter-generational exchanges and learning via volunteering in sport. This represents actually part of the future of our organisations.
