EOSE represented at 13th Annual Sport and EU Conference

On the 3rd and 4th of July 2018 EOSE Director of Standards, Ben Gittus, attended the 13th Annual Sport and EU Conference held at Edge Hill University in the UK.

The event was organised by the Association for the Study of Sport and the European Union which is a vibrant network of academics and practitioners with an interest in the study of the relationship between sport and the European Union.  Their objective is to promote serious and knowledge-based debate and to facilitate informed decision making in the area of EU sports policy.

EOSE was delighted to attend the conference for the first time for two days of stimulating plenary and panel sessions covering topics including sports governance, anti-doping, child protection, sport diplomacy, and esports – all within a European context.

During the panel session for Contemporary Issues in Sports Policy, Ben Gittus gave a brief presentation on EU Support for Skills Development in Sport. Ben presented the remit of EOSE as well as the EU policy agenda in skills development.

Finally Ben showcased several projects led by EOSE in skills development including the European Sector Skills Alliance (ESSA-Sport www.essa-sport.eu), ONSIDE project to develop the area of sport officiating, and the recently-completed S2A Sport project (www.s2a-sport.eu) which produced new standards and training guidelines for sport administration.
