Working together with the French National Olympic Committee and the social partners

The French national Olympic committee (CNOSF) hosted on Tuesday 21st of June 2016 a national round table entitled “Europe and Sport: the challenges of employment and skills in Europe”. Organised in collaboration with EOSE, the French social partners and the Ministry of Sports, this working day provided an opportunity to lay the foundations for a common reflection on the issue of skills development, employment, education and training. The original idea was to provide information and facilitate the dialogue between national stakeholders and work together towards a definition of a common vision of employment and skills in sport in Europe.

The event was a success as it gathered various national stakeholders from the sport sector: representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Sport as well as national social partners and various national sport federations.

The round table was officially opened by Denis Masseglia, President of the CNOSF, followed by an introduction of the objectives of the day given by Thierry Zintz, EOSE President, who acted as moderator of the round table. Thierry provided a presentation of the challenges and realities of the sport and physical activity sector in Europe in terms of education and employment.

This was followed by an informative presentation given by Jean Louis Gouju, EOSE Treasurer, focusing on EU policies and priorities for education, employment and sport as well as existing initiatives and tools.

Aurelien Favre, EOSE Executive Director, introduced the concept of European Sector Skills Alliance and presented the main findings of the recent Feasibility Study towards the setting up of European Sector Skills Alliance for the sport and physical activity sector.

The French Ministry of Sport then presented the national institutional context and this was followed by an introduction of the Italian education and qualification system for coaches made by Claudio Mantovani, from the ItalianSchool of Sport of the Italian National Olympic Committee.

The afternoon was dedicated to a panel discussion chaired by Thierry Zintz and gathering representatives from various national social partners (CFDT / FO / CNEA and COSMOS) as well as the Ministry of Sport and it provided the opportunity to exchange with the audience on topics such as education and training, the recognition of qualifications, which challenges and realities, the evaluation of the labour market in the sector etc.
