Sport startup? Win a ticket to the Rio Olympics 2016 (and 100.000 Euro)

The University of Trento has joined the forces with the Hype Foundation and invites you to participate at the Global Sport Innovation Competition, a special international competition for startups, bringing together entrepreneurs from all across the world, focusing on innovative products and technologies connected to the world of sports.

The international final will take place in Rio de Janeiro, during the 2016 Olympic Games, where 8 innovative startups, selected to represent different territories, will compete for the first prize (100.000 Euro). These 8 startups will be selected through different “regional” finals, that will each host 10 of the 350-400 applying startups.

The participating start-ups will pitch their ideas before a grand audience of investors, accelerators and key players of the sports and innovation industry.

Trento: confirming a leadership on sport-innovation

On May 31st 2016, the University of Trento will host the European “regional” final, covering the following Countries: Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland and Netherlands. The winner will take part in the Rio de Janeiro final.

The Trento organizing Committee has received the patronage of and is currently collaborating with: the Italian National Olympic Committee, the Sport Office of The Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the European Olympic Committee, FISU/International Federation of University Sport, EUSA/European University Sport Association, the European Athlete as Student Network, the European Network of Academic Sports Services, the Trento Autonomous Province, the Italian University Rectors Conference et al.

Trento confirms its leadership on sport-innovation, after having organized the 2013 Universiade Conference focused on “University Sport: Inspiring Innovation”, which involved for the first time the European Institute of Technology in a sport-related business session and attracted the video-message from Androulla Vassiliou (European Commissioner for Sport and Culture) and Antonio Tajani (Vice-President of the European Commission, responsible for Industry).

As a consequence of the success, Prof. Paolo Bouquet (University of Trento) has been appointed in the European Commission´s Working Group on the Economic Dimension of Sports and Sergio Anesi (2013 Trentino Universiade President) contributed to the informal Working Group on Industry-Sport, promoted by two European Commissioners (Antonio Tajani and Androulla Vassiliou), which produced a significant first report on sport-innovation-industry.

In 2013, in the wake of the 2013 Universiade Conference, POLITICO asked “Can university sport be brought out of the cold? Sport has often been kept separate from academia, but an upcoming event seeks to change that”. In 2016, Trento wishes to do it again and bring the passion of sport to the forefront of innovation…and is looking for talented startupper/entrepreneurs to bring to the hot Olympic summer of RIO 2016.
