Acting for the recognition of the sector

On the 27th November 2014, CEDEFOP organised a cross-sectoral major conference in Thessaloniki (Greece) entitled “STEPPING UP THE PACE: The next stage of European tools for transparency, recognition and quality for learning and work”.

The conference gathered around 70 participants with the aim to engage stakeholders in a reflection on the technical and conceptual conditions for taking the European tools for vocational education and training (EQF, ECVET, EQAVET, Europass) into a next stage in order to support the Commission’s work towards a European Area of Skills and Qualifications.

The event built upon the results of the 2014 Eurobarometer survey (linked to the proposal for a European Area of Skills and Qualifications) which shows that there is low awareness regarding EU tools among potential end users and the findings of the recent Cedefop study on “The common EU tools and the labour market” which looked at the relevance of European tools for the labour market, and highlighted the key role of stakeholder commitment and coordination needed for the tools to effectively reach their potential.

Ben Gittus, Director of Standards, represented EOSE and had the opportunity to give a presentation at the Working group on “Coordination and commitment – How to work together to reach end-users” based on the 7 Step Model and the importance of sectors in translating the European tools for use by end users.
