“New Skills for New Jobs: ACTION NOW”: Conference

The conference ‘New Skills for New Jobs’: Action Now’ is going to be organised in Brussels on the 4th of February 2010 by the Directorate-General for Education and Culture and the Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission.

Participants from both employment and education and training fields will have the opportunity to discuss the key findings with experts and give their views on how to further develop the skills and jobs agenda. In addition, updated forecasts of the demand and supply of jobs and skills in the EU up to 2020 will be presented.

New Skills for New Jobs’ initiative was launched by the European Commission in December 2008 to better anticipate, upgrade and match skills needs by building stronger bridges between the world of education and training and the world of work. A group of independent experts was established in March 2009 to advise the Commission on how to better anticipate, upgrade and match skills needs in Europe and on how to adapt curricula content, teaching and delivery methods, assessment and qualifications

The conference ‘New Skills for New Jobs’: Action Now’ will be an opportunity to present and discuss the key findings and recommendations of the experts and it will also include a presentation of the results of a new forecast on skills supply and demand up to 2020 developed by Cedefop, the European Centre for the Development of Vocational Training.
